Prosperity Gospel (TBN – Trinity Broadcasting Network)

[tweetmeme source= ‘OmarLoves’ only_single=false]

Most of you guys know I am extremely against this prosperity Gospel that seems to have taken over the body of Christ. Many of my post have been teachings from the bible that clearly opposes it. I actually was one of those who followed the prosperity gospel and thought it was God’s will. Paying my tithes to receive more money and “blessings”, believing highly elevated ministers when they told me God wants me to be rich financially. I jumped for joy at this idea and went around teaching people about this “blessing” these men have spoken into my life. Then 2008 comes and I finally pick up the bible for myself to read what JESUS said and WOW and BEHOLD it was completely against what I was teaching. I had so much repenting to do, so many people I brought to Christ based on this money ministry. Many people told me not to worry about it because it does not matter how you lead people to Christ, as long as they have been lead to Christ.

Gal 1:6-7 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

So did I really lead these people to Christ? With a false gospel, did I really lead them to Christ? I lead them to a Christ that says money is great and he wants us to have as much as we can with the right mindset. I lead them to a Christ that says you can have what your sinful nature wants with God.

Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

Another man who had to come to this realization through the word of God. Jim Bakker one of the founding fathers of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. He came into a bit of trouble and was sent to prison where he only could study God’s word everyday. Being with God alone is when you have no choice but to hear what he is saying… even if it’s a rebuke which it is much of the time. When Mr. Bakker got out of prison he soon after released a book called “I WAS WRONG”. Thats humility to admit you were wrong. I also had to do this, I contacted quite a few friends to let them know I was wrong when I found out Jesus’s teachings. Well let me let him tell it.

You are so right. I belonged to a church from 1994-2002 Abundant Life Cathedral in houston, texas. An from 1996-2002 our pastor (ED Montgomery) preached the prosperity teachings like Creflo Dollar and TD Jakes and countless others did .An after 9/11 my soul was being talkied to by GOD every night. I was in 2001 after 9/11 I refused too tithe. When my husband asked me why do I do this tithing. He was asking me if I understood that what our pastor was teaching was wrong.Because had co-workers that would have bible study at work and thye started really reading there BIBLE for themselves. So that is when I started feeling on Sundays after reading my bible and praying etc to realize that tithing was OLD testament etc.An that giving 10% to the store house isn’t what the LORd wanted form us now. An how these pastors lie and tell us that if we don’t tithe we aren’t in Kingdom of GOD that we are disappointing GOD etc.Was just a lie .A LIE that they teach every SUNDAY. An all of us christians are BLIND fools because we don’t DARE question it.What does that say about our souls. How we can be shamed and lied to to believe that TITHING LIE/.

You are correct! Sign of the times.

  • Daniel

I want to contribute towards tithing issue.

Whatever you heard, the bible CLEARLY says in Malachi 3:10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

So it is your decision to not obey what it CLEARLY says in the bible. I pray God reveals the revelation of tithing to you. All i can advice is test God with paying your tithe for a whole year and then try not paying for another full year and you watch and see the difference

Plz take some type to study out the tithe laws… Leviticus has alot of description about the 3 laws of tithe. Here is some information about it.

In 4000 years of recorded biblical history there is not a single example of what the Church practices today in tithing money. There are two one-time acts of tithing recorded before the Law. Neither man, Abraham or Jacob, seems to think that they should continue this process beyond the one-time act. Neither man is tithing of their income since each is only involved in a one-time act. Abraham is tithing of the spoils of a war. Neither man seems to teach their children to tithe. All the other tithing recorded in the Bible is found in the Law of Moses. In the Law, money was never used to tithe only food. In fact, when someone wanted to use money rather than bring the produce to Jerusalem, God required a 20% penalty to be added. (Leviticus 27:30-31) In other words, God discouraged the tithing of money.

The apostle Paul does not teach that everyone is obligated to tithe or to even to give. He teaches that giving is completely voluntary. The first apostolic council in Acts Chapter 15 does not say that Gentile believers should tithe either. There is absolutely no evidence that any Gentile Christian in the First Century ever tithed anything. Here is what the Encyclopedia Americana says about the history of tithing: “It was not practiced in the early Christian church but gradually became common (in the Roman Catholic church in western Europe) by the 6th Century. The Council of Tours in 567 and the second Council of Macon in 585 advocated tithing. Made obligatory by civil law in the Carolingian empire in 765 and in England in the 10th Century… The Reformation did not abolish tithing and the practice was continued in the Roman Catholic church and in Protestant countries… (until it was) gradually replaced by other forms of taxation. The Roman Catholic church still prescribes tithes in countries where they are sanctioned by law, and some Protestant bodies consider tithes obligatory.” The Encyclopedia Britannica points this out about tithing… “The eastern Orthodox churches never accepted the idea of tithes and Orthodox church members have never paid them.”

Malachi is NOT for Christians… it is for those who were under the Mosiac Law. If you read Malachi 2 u will see that it was directed toward the Levites who were not using to tithe the way they were suppose to. You will find out thru studying that the Roman Catholic church began to pull that verse from Mal 3:10 to start manipulating the people to believe what we believe today in about 500 AD.

      Thanks for your comments.

So my decision is to follow God’s word. 2 Cor 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

I give way more than I ever gave under the false tithing rule. N i have seen a difference, Ive seen the homeless having food to eat.

        Praise Jesus

So in response to Daniel’s comment, I agree. In response, Omar, to your reply to it, my biggest disagreement in your entire statement is: “Malachi is NOT for Christians… it is for those who were under the Mosiac Law. If you read Malachi 2 u will see that it was directed toward the Levites who were not using to tithe the way they were suppose to. You will find out thru studying that the Roman Catholic church began to pull that verse from Mal 3:10 to start manipulating the people to believe what we believe today in about 500 AD.”

    (1) Do you believe that the ENTIRE Bible is the inspired Word of God, written by human authors, but inspired by God. I’m guessing your answer will be yes (if it’s not, then I guess I see why you seem all bugged out). Now if it is in fact the inspired Word of God, then it was there for a reason.

    (2) to say that “Malachi is NOT for Christians…” in essence, if it wasn’t for Christians, then it should have not been put into the Bible since apparently according to you, it’s “not for Christians”

A short response because I do understand how hard it is to accept and understand that traditions were created by man…after all these hundred years…. we feel it cant be a mistake. I will simply ask that you read my two articles about the tithe. Find out what its about and how it started. There are things in the word of God that are for historical purposes and also for symbolics for what Jesus came to do. After we are free from this false tithing doctrine a Christian often learns to give so much more.

Most of us just believe everything we are told will NOT study to find out how things went wrong. It is a known FACT that early Christians DID NOT tithe. We just refuse to look into it cus we like the concept of this false tithe. I give 10 percent and i keep the rest. NOT SO, GOd asked us to give up our lives …. its not just 10 percent. Love is NOT limited.

Thanks for your comment and GIVE GIVE GIVE

      Praise Jesus!

Also those of you who view these comments. I want you to notice something. This post is not really about the tithe but it seems to continue to come up. It absolutely shows the way this prosperity is designed to work.

I have 2 tithing articles that are beautifully designed for this, please direct the tithing comments to those.

I’d ask that you read first

To Daniel, you are not a Jew under the Old Covenant of Law. I assume you are a Gentile living in the Dispensation of Grace so you are not under the law. There were 613 to break one you voided them all.
You need a clear revelation of the Jesus , Grace The Cross and what Jesus said when he said it is finished, as in paid in full means!
Acts 13:39 And through him (Jesus) everyone who believes is freed from all things of which you could not be freed through the law of Moses.
Galatians 3:11 So it is clear that no one is made right by by trying to keep the law
Galations 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by being made a curse for us on the tree.

Omar, that’s just wonderful. How I wish we can study the Bible together. I just love the explanation you gave on tithing, a lot of people in my country are enslaved by this doctrine. Most people pay their tithes because they fear they will be poor if they don’t. Giving is not a tradition like the tithe is but an act of love.

  • stephen zeber

one thing that I wish to add is : God will meet your needs not your wants which the Prosperity Gospel feeds on ! it feeds on the poor and the middle class and draws them in with the idea that if they give money that God make them rich … base on a money Con with a lot of people falling for it !

please do not fall for the old testment works … it is legalism at worse and will lead you away from the cross to the idea that you get into heaven by your own works , it does not work !
